CHRISTINE'S CORNER

About Me

Hi,

I would like to tell you a little bit about myself.

I grew up in a non-Christian home, so we didn’t go to church or talk about God.  I remember asking my mother who Jesus was, but she didn’t know.  As I was growing up, we moved a lot, going to many different schools, always the new kid.  Now, I believe God was preparing me for the ministry (LOL).  I can look back and see how God worked in my life, and I didn’t even know Him.  He is so awesome!

My family moved to Arkansas from Arizona when I was a teenager.  In Arkansas is where I was told about Jesus’ love for me.  My life felt empty and without a purpose, so when I heard about Jesus, I knew He was the answer.  I accepted Jesus as my Savior and Lord when I was 16.  He gave me a hunger and thirst for Him that will never be matched.  All I wanted to do was learn more about Him through His Word and discipleship.

Charles was called to preach months before we were married.  I felt called into the ministry, also in a different capacity than him.  For me, it was about serving the Lord and supporting my husband, which is what it still is today.  Ever since I was saved, God has been so important in my life.  We have been in the ministry for 48 years, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I’m not saying it has been easy but that there is no greater purpose than to serve God.

John 7:38 “Whoever believes in Me (Jesus), as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

A Time of Conversation

As I sit here trying to think of something to share, a memory comes to mind.

It was a beautiful sunny day with white puffy clouds and a blue crisp sky the color of cornflowers.  I was walking along the outside hallway at Midwestern Baptist Seminary with one of the retired missionary professors.

We were enjoying the warm but not sweltering day casually talking about how nice and wonderful the day was when I interjected how I had heard that it was supposed to rain and be cold the next day.  I don't think I will ever forget what he said because it impacted me so much.

He said, enjoy today and all the blessings God has for you.  No need to look at what tomorrow is supposed to be.  I know it is simple but also profound in its message.  You see, sometimes I'm looking at what is going to happen tomorrow rather than enjoying today and miss what God is wanting to show me today.  I am a planner by nature, so sometimes it is exceedingly difficult to just go with the flow.

This reminds me of a favorite verse of mine, "This is the day that the Lord has made.  Rejoice and be glad in it."  You see, it says I have the choice whether to rejoice in the day or to let the day control my mood.  I have found when I choose to rejoice even though at the time my day is going awful it changes my mood and how I perceive things.

The important part to remember is this is the day the Lord has given me, and I am to make the most of it.  When I rejoice in God and think of Him, I am making the most of it.  Because that is when He shows me what I need to see and hear from Him.  I am focused on Him and not on everything going on around me.

So, enjoy today for what it offers, and do not worry about what tomorrow brings.  The Lord is the One who has made the day and He is in control.  I don't have to be!

Thoughts for the week.
